Empowering the Next Generation of Mobility

Unlock new levels of design freedom and manufacturing efficiency with Proxxima™ polyolefin thermoset resin systems. Featuring ultra-low viscosity for rapid processing and exceptional toughness, Proxxima™ resin systems enable engineers to create lightweight, durable components that enhance long-term vehicle performance and energy efficiency.

Advancing Automotive Engineering

Proxxima™ resin systems make it possible to manufacture large, complex parts with integrated features such as ribs and bosses, allowing for the consolidation of multiple components into a single, high-performance solution. With a density up to 10% lower than traditional thermosets, Proxxima™ systems helps reduce vehicle weight without sacrificing strength or durability. Additionally, these materials offer four times the toughness of epoxy resins, superior chemical resistance, hydrophobic properties, and outstanding fatigue resistance—making them ideal for the demands of modern automotive engineering.

Versatile Applications Across Mobility

Proxxima™ resin systems are compatible with a wide range of processes—including HP-RTM, LP-RTM, Wet Compression Molding, RIM, Pultrusion, and Filament Winding—and work seamlessly with glass, carbon, and natural fiber reinforcements. They can be applied across a variety of structural and functional automotive parts, including:

  • Battery housings
  • Wheels
  • Frames and monocoques
  • Hydrogen tanks
  • Bumper beams
  • Roof cross members
  • Springs
  • Structural members
  • Automotive accessories
  • Propulsion systems
  • Energy storage housings
  • Body panels
  • Suspension systems

Enabling High-Speed, Efficient Manufacturing

  • Ultra-low viscosity enables fast infusion (less than 1 minute) and reduces pressure requirements
  • Fast, tunable curing (less than 2 minutes) accelerates cycle times and increases throughput
  • Delivers consistent quality across low- and high-volume production
  • Offers potential savings on capital equipment and energy usage

Accelerating Mobility Innovation Through Collaboration

To speed the adoption of Proxxima™ systems, ExxonMobil is partnering with leading research and innovation centers, including Fraunhofer ICT in Germany, the IACMI Scale-Up Research Facility in Detroit, USA. These collaborations create development platforms that bring together industry innovators to enable rapid prototyping, validation, and commercialization.

our products

Proxxima™ polyolefin thermoset resin systems

Our resin formulations are based on cyclic C5 monomers and other proprietary monomers and additives. Our catalyst formulations have strong foundations in Nobel Prize-winning technology developed by Professor Robert Grubbs and his research team. This powerful combination produces polymers that have the capability to outperform today’s solutions across a broad set of everyday applications such as wind turbine blades, electric vehicle parts, sustainable construction, and anticorrosion coatings.
