Wind Power

Wind energy is an exciting industry with annual capacity growth rates of over 20%. Servicing these robust market growth demands has been a challenge, however. Ever larger turbines and their associated wind blades have required dramatic advances in construction materials, leading carbon fiber and epoxy resin based composites to phase out glass fiber and polyester ones. Materia’s poly-dicyclopentadiene (poly-DCPD) resin represents the next advance in wind blade material technology, potentially delivering greater toughness and a smaller carbon footprint at a lower cost. We are positioning poly-DCPD as an epoxy replacement for wind blades, a market opportunity that is expected to reach $1B by 2014.
