Materia's proprietary catalyst technology serves as the foundation for a broad-based and rapidly growing commercial enterprise. Revenues are currently derived from the sale of proprietary catalysts, the sale of manufactured products enabled by these catalysts, and the licensing of intellectual property. Materia also generates revenue from industrial collaborations, a fee-for-service business in which Materia assists other companies in identifying and developing new products based on its technology.

Metathesis is a broadly applicable reaction that addresses customer needs in diverse markets. For simplicity, Materia has separated the technology's opportunities into those in Polymers, Chemicals, and Pharmaceuticals. In each of these markets, metathesis enables the rapid discovery of novel compounds as well as cost and time-efficient manufacturing.
