Manager, Market Development
Job Description
The Manager, Market Development’s primary responsibilities will be the identification and development of new opportunities for Materia’s metathesis technology. The position will be based at Materia’s facility in Pasadena, CA and will require significant travel. More specifically, the Manager, Market Development will:
- Lead generation — Develop a deep understanding of Materia’s technology and its potential for economically competitive application in the chemical industry. Select industry sectors for engagement through dialogue with the business development team. Select leading companies active in the prioritized sectors, identify key individuals within those companies, and set up technical seminars. Prepare and give company-targeted technical seminars, elicit unmet needs, and communicate metathesis’ potential in addressing those needs.
- Lead development — Clearly define the Materia technology value proposition for opportunities developed via the lead generation process described above (proactive opportunities). Estimate (for both the established product and/or process and the new Materia product and/or process) production costs and throughput, product performance, and other opportunity-relevant characteristics. Analyze these characteristics versus the required product development, switching costs, regulatory approvals, customer education, and other hurdles to commercialization. Quantify Materia’s value and justify the appropriate economic split between Materia and the potential partner.
- General business development — As part of the business development team, help regularly update and implement a strategy to maximize the profit potential for Materia’s technology. Give technology seminars at industry conferences. Represent Materia as a trusted partner to industry.
Performance Metrics
A successful candidate shall successfully generate and develop market opportunities for the company’s technology while generally contributing to the overall business development effort. More specific metrics include:
